About this deal

Jeremy Clarkson gets under the bonnet in Clarkson on Cars - a collection of his motoring journalism. The most popular advice topics — we've got you covered 2035 petrol and diesel car ban: 12 things to know Advice

The problem is he starts getting into specific cars. I love hearing about car lines, but hearing about how the "new" Honda CRX and their brand new NSX that they are coming out with. The NSX is only 10 years younger than me and unless you want to hear every minute detail about the original edition of the car, what's the point? After 5-6 of these specific articles in a row, I just had to stop. BMW 730d SE: “Then there’s the iDrive system. In essence, one button — think of it as a computer mouse — controls thousands of controls on the car, and I’m sure you can get used to it in the same way that you can get used to having a nasty headache.” What I really think about... supercars, America, foreigners, car launches, Top Gear, the battle of the sexes and cars " From a career as a local journalist in the north of England, he rose to public prominence as a presenter of the original format of Top Gear in 1988. Since the mid-1990s Clarkson has become a recognised public personality, regularly appearing on British television presenting his own shows and appearing as a guest on other shows. As well as motoring, Clarkson has produced programmes and books on subjects such as history and engineering. From 1998 to 2000 he also hosted his own chat show, Clarkson. This is not a car that shouts or barks or growls. It howls. Up there, on the moors, it sounded otherworldly. Like a werewolf that had put its foot in a gin trap.” The best of everything Gordon Murray T.50 dynamic debut - report Driving Bentley's Blower continuation (video) Video: Revisiting the Jaguar I-Pace in Tokyo › More here... His opinionated but humorous tongue-in-cheek writing and presenting style has often generated much public reaction to his viewpoints. His actions both privately and as a Top Gear presenter have also sometimes resulted in criticism from the media, politicians, pressure groups and the public. The book is filled with articles from Clarkson's time at Performance Cars. He's quite witty, he has some great zingers, and the stories are good to begin with. You get an idea what the life of a professional car reviewer is really like (it's godly). Lexus SC 430: “Lexus doesn’t engineer its cars for Britain. They’re engineered for fatties in Texas. For the long, straight roads of Nevada. For show-off eco-mentalists in Hollywood. The SC 430 is one of the most disgusting pieces of automotive crap I’ve encountered.” Miscellaneous: “There are now many crossover 4×4 family school-run SUV MPV whatever you want to call them vehicles, and for the most part they are all absolutely terrible … I’d rather be friends publicly with Piers Morgan than friends with someone who has a crossover car.” Get under the skin of cars over months rather than days Extended test: Honda HR-V 2023 review Extended test: Skoda Kamiq 1.0 TSI Extended test: Dacia Jogger review › More here...

Audi A5 TFSI 2.0 S: “In the interests of balance, I should say that the cloth roof works beautifully, that the quality was good and that it’s not a bad-looking car. But I fear I sound like Harold Shipman’s lawyer. ‘Yes, I know he murdered many people but, m’lud, he does have a lovely beard.’ ”

The problem comes around the 50-60 percent mark. You now have read a lot of stories, and they slowly become less interesting. Remember this is a collection of articles, so you are now talking what probably took years to write (5-6 for the total book? I don't know) being consumed in days. Burnout is possible, but that's not the problem. Rolls-Royce Phantom II: “It is a sublime experience, like getting into a warm bubble bath and then getting out and finding yourself somewhere else.” Miscellaneous: “When a car is named after a famous place, it’s always bloody Monte Carlo. We’ve had the Lancia Montecarlo, the Chevrolet Monte Carlo, the Ford Comète Monte Carlo, the Dodge Monaco and the Renault 5 Monaco. Why? Seriously, why name your car after a dreary, boring, rain-sodden tax haven full of prostitutes and arms dealers?” Quite enjoyable but not always good. I enjoyed starting the book, but let's start with the length. There's over 100 stories in the book or so. My kindle at least goes up by 1 percent almost every time I finish one, but not always. So there's a lot of information. Ford Focus 1.0 EcoBoost: “To drive, it is brilliant, and apart from a gruff but rather endearing three-cylinder engine noise, there’s simply no indication at all that you are being pulled along by an engine the size of Richard Hammond’s left testicle.”The most popular advice topics — we've got you covered 2035 petrol and diesel car ban: 12 things to know

Here he is offensive to just about everyone, but its more of a whingeing right wing rant with flashes of humour, than his later works which are laugh out loud funny. Old people are forever driving snail like to beetle drives in Japanese cars. He is quite xenophobic but admires the Italians, because they love fast cars. He is quite misogynistic : "Why do people usually those with bosoms, find it so difficult to park? Stories and advice about our beloved classics Are these the 23 ugliest cars ever made?
