I know that not everyone has the same access to donation or waste diversion resources, but I think it's worth making a bit of a effort where we can. I have purchased so many decluttering books over the past few years trying to sort out my home once and for all, but not one of them spoke to me like this book! Highly recommended for someone who wants to de-junk their house but who isn't quite ready yet for the extremes of The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up.

As the older generation needs to downsize, having some tips on how to help them through the process is welcomed. I read an ARC of this book through Net Galley, and while I did like it a lot, there are two reasons I didn't give it higher marks. When she talks about having to give up on the dreams and the things that represent who you were or wish you were - that stuff really hits home for me right now. One of the best parts of How To Manage Your Home Without Losing Your Mind is the section on decluttering. I thought this was interesting because I figured it would be best to clear a space and move to the next space. There were indeed some additional, practical steps and tips that I had not considered incorporating or that made some of the agony go away.

So if nothing else you this book will show you, that it is possible and it is doable for YOU to declutter your own home! There is also practical decluttering advice that can be applied to helping older family members, kids or even friends declutter. From the Sidetracked Home Executives to Peter Walsh's psychological approach to the Queen of Clean, everywhere you turn someone has advice for you. Now, a lot of that is about being stressed and feeling a time crunch but it also really hit at some very clear issues that the author mentions that I share and I related to so much of what she talks about as the whys. She recommends getting the daily stuff under wraps first - and I agree - so if you are in need of a routine/system for keeping dishes/laundry/tidying under control, read that first book first!
