About this deal

As far as the accessories went, it came with a gig bag, a cable, a USB rechargeable practice amp, a pack of picks, adjustment Allen wrenches, a trem arm, spare strings, a strap, a clip on tuner, a capo, and access to the Donner app for free online lessons. For any beginners on a tight budgetlooking for a complete starter set, this kit is definitely worth your consideration. If you have strings that are worn, flattened, kinked, corroded, rusted, or mucked up with sweat grease, and grime, then it is time to change your strings. After a tune up mine was playable right out of the box, with a setup far better than more expensive guitars I’ve bought, although it is a good idea to get any guitar a new setup. With 5-way pickup switches and coil split function, the DST-152 electric guitar creates 7 modes of sound to meet multiple needs with less noise.

One issue: I am getting a little string buzz on the E string in the upper frets, but it's inconsistent and only when I strum just right, so I'm undecided if I'm going to need to adjust the truss rod or not. Although I can tell that with a fret polish, nut adjustment and setup this would be pretty good, I don't really need another full guitar.

Then contact your credit card company, it may take some time before your refund is officially posted. While this is no higher end guitar, it is a VERY NICE beginner/starter guitar and with the package it comes with, it's a solid win in my opinion. DST-152 does feature coil-split and top-notch sounding bridge humbucker, but the thin neck and awesome sounding neck humbucker of Ibanez GRX70QA just give the edges for the Ibanez here, that’s my personal opinion though.

The Donner amp requires you to be tethered with a cable if you’re using headphones, so if you’d like to go the Bluetooth route, I recommend getting a Bluetooth guitar amp as well. With the HSS configuration, 2 tone controls, and coil-split for the bridge pickup, this guitar has plenty of tone options. Intonation is adjusted by loosening the saddle lock screw and sliding the saddle forward or backward to achieve the desired intonation point. If you’ve been playing for a long time (I haven’t), your standards might be different than mine; then again, you might also have a field day modifying this guitar with different pickups and tuners, a new bridge, et cetera.Expertly packaged, and not a scratch on it, the only thing it’s been the years since I set up a guitar and had to think about it while!

Otherwise, strings should be changed when they are no longer giving you the tone, brightness, and response that you desire. Maybe the edges of the frets need smoothed - doesn't matter much to me because I don't contact the side of the fret board that way. A couple of things that are not great for beginners are the bad setup and poor quality control that can happen. To keep your new Donner guitar in good condition, we suggest that you should get into the habit of cleaning the guitar every time you finish playing. I’m not experienced at all with partscasters, builds, etc, but I was fooling around and thought about this. Not only did it come with a nice, entry level guitar, but it came with all the extras you need to get started, and then some. It can handle music from soft country cleans to pretty meaty metal tones if the right amp is used (I recommend Fender Mustang LT25, Boss Katana 50 Mkii, or VOX Valvetronix 20). JS22 Dinky can also handle more gentle stuff and has a compound radius which makes riffing near to neck and soloing closer to the body really smooth.

The action was just about right for a beginner electric – enough height to prevent fret buzz, but low enough to be comfortable. Donner Electric Guitar, 39" Electric Guitar Kit HSS Pickup Coil Split, DST-152R Beginner Set with Amp, Bag, Capo, Strap, String, Tuner, Cable, Picks, Metallic Ice Blue This is our second Donner guitar, we also have their acoustic. In the bridge position with both coils engaged we were able to get some bright, punchy tones, that sounded especially good with some overdrive engaged. The metal parts are easily oxidized, please make sure to wipe the strings, bridge, pickups, and tuners with a dry, delicate cotton cloth every time you finish playing. I have manage to remember a few chords and relearn a few tricks (have not touched a guitar in decades). In the case of not playing for a long time, we recommend that you loosen the strings appropriately to avoid bending the neck. Unfinished/raw maple fingerboards are essentially raw wood and require an oil-based fingerboard cleaner for cleaning and conditioning.
