About this deal

The PrimeFilm XE is compatible with both Windows and macOS operating systems, ensuring widespread accessibility. It connects to the computer via a USB interface, ensuring reliable data transfer. The scanner’s compatibility and connectivity options make it convenient for users to integrate it into their existing setup. Pros Fortunately, less expensive alternatives are still available. Pacific Image makes the PrimeFilm 120 Pro, and Epson continues to push the v800/850 (same scanner, just a different version of bundled Silverfast software). I’ve yet to test the PrimeFilm 120 Pro, so I can’t comment on that, and while the v800/850 produces acceptable results, the output from flatbed scanners can’t touch what the Plustek 120 can do. For big scan jobs, it can be challenging to find a reliable set-it and forget-it scanner. Save precious work hours by letting this model operate on its own, and by spending less time in post production making color corrections, removing dust, and repairing scan errors. The PowerSlide X will simplify your life. Key Features

As you'd expect, the Firewire connection is considerably faster than the USB 1.1 connection, especially so when scanning to large file-sizes. Above are crops of the original scans, on the left the PF 3600 PRO and on the right the Minolta Scan Dual 3. The noise is plainly visible on the PF 3600 PRO, as is the low contrast. My previous installation of Ai Studio 8 failed to recognize the scanner despite my best efforts, and I was forced to fully uninstall it, and then re-install the same software with a new license key from LaserSoft (not to mention the difficulty involved with getting this key from them should you own a computer without a CD/DVD ROM drive). LaserSoft, it’s 2018! Time to hire a UX designer!PrimeFilm XA can not detect frame edges. It relies on human assistance, from where it assumes a standard frame width when advancing the film strip. In terms of the figures below, especially for the Firewire times, the PF 3600 PRO appears a fast scanner. What these figures don't show is the time wasted waiting for the scanner to recover from crashes and this really damages any appeal the fast speeds could have offered. Size (Pixels) For the sake of simplicity, let’s use the PrimeFilm XAs 35mm film scanner as an example. Much of the process can be applied to other scanners. The first step is to make sure your film is as clean as possible. Remove any dust with a clean microfiber cloth before starting the scanning process. When scanning, choose the following options: 48-bit color depth, RAW DNG file format, and scanning at 5000 dpi. Also, consider using the manual focus option set to “0”. Bear in mind that even though other platforms might also be compatible, we don't recommend you install any software on operating systems other than the highlighted ones. Many film photographers use the Epson Perfection V600 and love it for its flexibility and versatility. You get a solid image quality (supplemented by Epson’s Digital ICE dust and scratch removal technology, which the scanner uses on both film and print scans) and improved compatibility with multiple formats via its holders.

Despite the shoddy build quality, PrimeFilm offers features not found in any other scanner within the same price range, like the built-in film transport, 137MP image files, and 48-bit colour . You may choose to keep the digital negatives (non-inverted copies for further processing) with your PrimeFilm XA deliberately or focus on archiving the final images. Given the size these images can have, you should also want to consider an external storage solution, whether it’s a cloud service like DropBox or a physical HDD.Infrared dust and scratch removal - Magic Touch technology eliminates flaws in film, such as dust or scratches, in the final image scan

Technically, you can use a regular flatbed scanner to digitize your negative. However, there are a couple of problems to be aware of. First, the optical resolution of most flatbed scanners is too low to capture a large amount of detail from the negative. When examined side by side with a file from a dedicated film scanner, the image from the flatbed scanner will appear soft. The Epson Perfection V39 II Color Photo and Document Flatbed Scanner is a versatile unit for home and professional use. I'm considering an Epson Perfection V850 Pro Scanner or perhaps a dedicated one like the Pacific Image Prime Film XAs super edition Film Scanner.

The star of this test was the Nikon LS-3510AF lens, an awesome performer that costs less than the PF10K! WHAT I LIKE

Kosmo Foto Mono 100 with Voigtländer Vitessa A with Photoshop Curves applied after scanning. How much does Kosmo Foto Mono cost, and where to buy it. One of the best features of the OpticFilm 8200i AI is its advanced SilverFast Ai Studio 8 scanner software, which helps optimize image quality and improve your workflow. It allows you to preview your scans without having to open other applications, enhance your images with different image tools, and offers easy and convenient options for organizing and sharing your files. Why We Chose This Scanner There is a company in Germany that is offering a new Nikon 5000ED for nearly €7000.00, it seems to be a rebuilt Nikon scanner, as it emphasises the new scanning camera and CCD sensor along with the inclusion of Silverfast softwares. You’ll also find it easy to enhance your precious memories with the OpticFilm 8200i SE. SilverFast software boasts intelligent functions for smoother adjustments and superb results every time. The software has a WorkflowPilot feature to give you a step-by-step guide on all scanning processes. You’ll enjoy smooth scanning as SilverFast features multi-tasking capabilities and 64-bit support. Why We Chose This ScannerThe PrimeFilm XE features a compact and lightweight design, making it a portable and space-saving solution. Its durable construction ensures longevity, making it suitable for long-term use. The scanner is designed with user convenience in mind, providing easy access to film loading and a smooth scanning process. Scanning Performance Pacific Image Electronics might not be a familiar name to many over here in the UK. Their PrimeFilm 3600 Pro we're reviewing here is placed at the top of their range of film scanners. It is also, as far as we can tell identical to the Microtek 3600, other than a different colour exterior. I have a CoolScan V on loan, and own a Reflecta ProScan 7200 (in the meantime replaced with a newer model which is still available new today; in the US the brand name is Pacific Images), so I have been able to compare them using the exact same slides and negatives, using VueScan to operate both.
