Grant, Matt (May 13, 2008). "Jim Balent Interview!". Project Fanboy. Archived from the original on March 5, 2016. A.I. Is a Crapshoot: The robots created by the TSA (issue #72) swiftly become Omnicidal Maniacs without any outside aid. I could claim it's my deep interest in Wicca that draws me to this fantastical world of witches, flying kittens, skeleton spirits, fairies and dragons. No, it is the super endowed, top heavy forms of Tarot (Rowan to her friends) and her evil-inclined sister Raven Hex that brought me into this modern day Salem coven. After working for the D.C. corporation on a super voluptuous Catwoman, artist and writer Jim Balent set off on his own to create this fantasy adventure which claims to be "a respectful incorporation of the wiccan tradition". Manning, Matthew K.; Dolan, Hannah, ed. (2010). "1990s". DC Comics Year By Year A Visual Chronicle. London, United Kingdom: Dorling Kindersley. p.260. ISBN 978-0-7566-6742-9. Selina Kyle finally stole the spotlight in her first ongoing series by writer Jo Duffy and artist Jim Balent. {{ cite book}}: |first2= has generic name ( help) CS1 maint: multiple names: authors list ( link)

Origin

He watches her battle his foes for some time but when she is thrown to the ground he decides to step in. Unleashing his fists of fury on one of the pumpkin monsters he is an easily removed threat. And though it seems that once again it is his end, Tarot recovers and saves him from the beast, asking him if he's hurt. She knows that since she lives by the first law of witchcraft -otherwise known as the Witch's Creed, "Do what thou will but harm none."- that things may be difficult.

Tarot, Witch of the Black Rose: The Mermaid Chronicles Tarot, Witch of the Black Rose: The Mermaid Chronicles

The Fright Knight seems to be a personal enemy of Skeleton Man and was used by Azure to almost kill Jon while he himself was imprisoned. Ambiguously Evil: During her spiritual journey in the Summerlands, Tarot encounters The Devil. Unlike the other Major Arcana, the Devil acts as a sort of obstacle, meant to distract her from her agenda and keep her there. She uses her small imps to set her down where she then tempts her using her carnal desires and temptations to distract her, undoing her clothes and effectively removing her "defenses" given to her by the other Arcana. It can be assumed that because she does nothing to actually stop her from leaving, it is likely that the Devil simply played antagonist as a test, and that she was not actually against her. We know Tarot and Boo Cat once had a fling with each other, but now she's trying to be faithful, so as not to hurt Jon. Even so, in #30, Boo Cat is clearly still lusting for her.The permanently naked Gingerbread-Woman-Slash-Sex-Doll who butchers and consumes the man who made her... Forced Transformation: Raven has something of a penchant for changing her enemies into various animals, including frogs and crows. In issue #39, a possible future reveals that Jon and Tarot are married and have a child, and then she and Raven ask him to father Raven's child as well. As seen on the trope image, it turns out well. The Twins are the spirit of a two-headed girl (actually conjoined twins) who died and whose spirit haunts Salem's cemetery. She/they are constant companion(s) of Skeleton Man, her protector.

Jon's character seems like the type that while it would be "cool" to see the girls go at it and maybe even participate, the emotional factor would weigh in and do some damage on him. Especially as Boo was the lover before he came along. Frankly, after the way Boo "hurt" Tarot in the previous relationship according to #6, i don't understand why she would want to risk Boo "disappearing" on her again or hurting her again. I always assumed from #10-11 that the taboo aspect/temptation of having something you can't easily have being more attractive for her. Also, there is the factor that Boo can take care of herself more in Tarot's world than Jon can so other than great sex Boo has that advantage. Rule of Cool: In Tarot's world, each President of the United States is expected to wear Powered Armor and fight evil in the name of the country, making every one since the founding of the country an expy of Iron Man (or, in the case of George Washington and his battlesuit, Wood Man?). Jim Balent & Holly G! Vienna Comicon 2017. YouTube. November 9, 2017. Archived from the original on December 1, 2021. Double Standard: See Scenery Censor, below. One scene in "Holiday Witches" shows all six of the series' main characters — Tarot, her sister and mother, Boo Cat, Licorice and Jon — fully nude. Guess who's the only one who isn't completely exposed for the readers' enjoyment? Hilariously enough, the only time a man is vaguely exposed, it's the Talking Fountain, who is completely made of stone. Also, a giant. Won't Take "Yes" for an Answer: When Jon is proposing to Tarot, he's too busy arguing that being her boyfriend has already put him in enough danger that becoming her husband wouldn't change things much, that he's fully willing to go through with the consequences, and so on, to realize that she said "yes" almost immediately.

Witch War

It is the story of Tarot, a warrior witch, and her family, friends and lovers. The comic generally features stories of fantasy action and adventure interspersed with frequent scenes of nudity. Jon Webb is a man who gained his power to talk with the dead after a car accident. He now sees himself as the protector of Salem's cemetery, and lover of Tarot.

Tarot: Witch of the Black Rose (Volume) - Comic Vine

Despite her great skills and powers, Tarot is far from being invincible. Being human she's vulnerable to death and great physical damage can kill her. She's also vulnerable to diseases. As if on command, the ground bursts open as a giant pumpkin-headed golem emerges from it, with leather-winged, smaller pumpkins following in his wake. Tarot and Jon began to lose their balance but they refused to fall, for if they would have as the earth was shifting beneath their feet, losing would have been the only possible outcome. World of Buxom: It might be easier to list the women in this comic that don't have humongous breasts. As she walks through the castle, followed by a flying Pooka she heads off to find something within the house. She knows that she will not be able to defeat her sister's darkness with naught but her spells and robes. Instead she needs something that was crafted with magic, she needs her witch's armor. Apologizing to Tarot he tells her its just because he has never met a real witch before. She assures him its quite alright as most people have the wrong idea...however, if they really wanted to know the truth all they'd have to do is ask her and she would gladly share but no one does ask. And so Tarot begins the tale of her life, initially interrupted at certain points by a confused Skeleton Man.

Creation

Licorice Dust is a vampire who was made into one alongside her three best friends. She was a previous lover of Tarot and eventually became Boo Cat's lesbian lover and was the more controlled one of the two. The series is a mixture of action, tits, magic, tits, neo-pagan propaganda, tits, Author Tracts, and tits. Damn near every Sub-Trope. Much like the costumes, the term doesn't even begin to cover the characters in this series. The End... Or Is It?: Averted; despite a few hints dropped (such as the Frankenstein nurse and ginger bread woman), there's virtually no follow-up on any of the potential story lines. Comic-Book Time: Averted. Time passes normally between issues and arcs. Because it's a bi-monthly comic, this can sometimes feel a little strange.
