About this deal

The only reason to consider buying the Nikon Coolpix P950 is its lens, which – covering an equivalent focal length range of 24-2000mm – is extraordinary. There are very few cameras that can match the P950's versatility, although you'll get better image quality and more advanced autofocus from several similarly-priced (but less ambitious) compact cameras. It's likely that no further discussion is required, in which case we recommend starting a new thread. If however you feel your response is required you can still do so. The P950's quoted battery life has been reduced when compared to the predecessor. This is presumably a result of the higher resolution viewfinder, with 290 shots per charge quoted, compared to 360 for the P900. From the outside, the number of upgrades that have been made to the Nikon Coolpix P950, when compared to its predecessor, the P900, seem relatively few. However, at least two of those upgrades are important - the ability to shoot in raw format and the addition of 4K video recording. The former is particularly important for enthusiast photographers, and was one of the most disappointing omissions from the P900.

I’ve had this camera a couple of weeks now, and it’s great for me. Yes, pictures not that sharp at long focal lengths, but I don’t think that’s the point. I’m enjoying just “getting the shot”, of small animals, birds and scenery you can’t get near. I’ve used 400mm f/5.6 on Canons for many years, and this is completely different! Also use merely as a spotting scope. Actually not for me for moon shots - much better with even a small telescope/mount, but if you don’t have that setup - brilliant and easy. Snapper2013: This is either a (not really funny) joke or you have never held any Nikon camera other than an entry level P&S A 2359k-dot viewfinder includes a sensor for automatically detecting when the camera has been lifted to the eye. This 'finder is one of the key improvements made to the P950 over its predecessor, being over twice the resolution. It’s a much better experience and gives you a decent view of the scene in front of you. With an unbelievable 83x optical zoom NIKKOR lens, the 16-megapixel Coolpix P950 is a powerful new addition to Nikon’s superzoom bridge camera lineup, which delivers unprecedented image quality from extreme distances. Please complete the form below for a quote - Please be as accurate as possible to help us give an accurate quote. The viewfinder is one of a small number of improvements which have been made to the Nikon P950 compared with the P900. At 2359k-dots, it has more than twice the resolution of its 921k-dot predecessor. In use, it’s much more pleasant to use the newer viewfinder, giving you a bright and clear view of the scene. If you’re somebody that very often uses a viewfinder, and you’re struggling to decide between the P900 and the more expensive P950, this is something which may just sway you. Run F-P950-V13W.exe to extract the firmware to a sub-folder in the new folder. The resulting file and folder hierarchy is shown below: I hear what you're saying about RAW-processing. We're in the same boat there. And as an owner of a Nikon D800E, Sony 7RM2, and Nikon P1000, among many other cameras, I'm pretty familiar with how a lot of sensors push and pull in Post.

Images Stay Crystal Clear

Hello, I am an avid wildlife and bird, nature and landscape photographer. I just need to ask 3 questions about the Nikon Coolpix 950. The Nikon Coolpix P950 is a mega-zoom camera with a lens equivalent to 24-2000mm, with an image stabilizer capable of reducing shake by up to 5.5 stops. The minimum focus distance of the lens is just 1cm (0.4"). The P950 uses a 16MP 1/2.3" sensor and supports Raw capture. Video can be captured at 4K/30p, and a mic input lets users capture higher-quality audio. Movies: Approx. 1 hour 20 minutes *Based on Camera and Imaging Products Association (CIPA) standards for measuring the life of camera batteries. Measured at 23(-/+2)°C (73(-/+4)°F); zoom adjusted with each shot, flash fired with every other shot, image quality set to Normal, image size set to 4608 x 3456 (16M). Battery life may vary depending on shooting interval and length of time menus and images are displayed. Rear buttons include a toggle to switch between the EVF and LCD (the camera does have an eye sensor for automatic switching) and to change the focus mode. The AE-L/AF-L button is at the center of the focus toggle switch. The P950's lens (like pretty much all lenses of this type) is best once you zoom in a little. The superzoom class is pretty small, and refreshingly easy to navigate. Very simply, the more you pay, the more zoom you get, and the more likely it is that you'll get nice extras like OLED viewfinders, customizable controls and superior video. While Chris and Jordan's P950 video review fell prey to the classic blunder of believing conspiracy theories about the earth being flat, I actually used the 2000mm lens to prove that the earth does, in fact, have a curvature. It was very easy, really! On a related note, if you tend to shoot mostly at one or other end of the P950's zoom, you can save time on startup by presetting your desired default focal length via the camera's menu. The lens closes down to f/5.6 by the 30x (700mm) zoom setting, and Imatest shows good quality here as well (2,300 lines). Zooming in just a little bit further, to the 33x setting (800mm), reduces it to f/6.3, and slightly drops resolution (2,200 lines). A larger sensor only has an advantage in low light if you are willing to sacrifice DoF for it (and have a correspondingly larger lens to do so). If you are not, then you might be better off with the typically better stabilization or faster readout speed (for computational imaging) of the smaller sensor.

Connectivity and Power

Customers looking for a mainstream bridge model can get away with spending a bit less. The Canon SX70 HS is our Editors' Choice; its lens doesn't have as much zoom power, but it covers an ultra-wide 20mm angle. eno2...if you can recommend a smartphone that can take same quality photos as ANAYV can take with the with the P950 at 1500 - 2000 mm FF equivalent, I will be glad to add it to my collection. Heheheh, I've tried that cropping down with my RX10M3. No dice. Remember, a 2x crop to 1,200mm means a drop to 5MP. That's already pretty light on resolution. At 2,400mm, you're down to 1.25MP. Nope. In P, A mode, 1/2000-2 sec. (at ISO sensitivity 100-1600), or 1/2000-30 sec. (when ISO sensitivity is fixed at 100) At the top of the camera’s grip you’ll find the shutter release button, as well as one of two ways to zoom the lens in and out. If you prefer, you can also use a switch on the left hand side of the lens to extend it from the wide-angle to the telephoto end of the lens.

Users can rely on the P950 to photograph life’s most unique subjects with incredible accuracy and focus thanks to its Target Finding AF capabilities, 7 fps continuous shooting and ISO sensitivity up to 6400. A great option for photographers of all skill levels, the COOLPIX P950 features user-friendly controls alongside an intuitive menu system and a 2359k-dot EVF, making it easier to review and capture one-of-a-kind shots. Using dedicated Bird-Watching and Moon Modes, photographers can effortlessly snap photos of their world and beyond. The new P950 also adds RAW (NRW) photo recording, an enhanced high-resolution electronic viewfinder and Nikon SnapBridge 2,3,4 to seamlessly share images or remotely control the camera.Joining the viewfinder is a 921k-dot, 3.2-inch articulating screen, which has the same resolution as its predecessor, but is a little larger (3.2-inches, compared to 3.0). It seems odd that in 2020, a screen without touch-sensitivity has entered the market, and it’s a shame not to see this improvement compared with the older model. Still it’s useful that you can position the screen any which way you like, and is particularly handy for video recording and taking selfies. It’s also good to be able to turn the screen to face inwards to protect it when on the move. The best bridge cameras offer a high-end experience without all the costs that come with a DSLR or mirrorless camera and their interchangeable lenses. We explain what you need to know jerste - Yes it does, but unfortunately the camera industry isn't likely to change the habits of a lifetime. 😔 The Nikon Coolpix P950 has 7 sensitivity settings ranging from ISO 100 to ISO 6400 at full resolution for both JPEG and Raw file formats.
