About this deal
The midrange of both monitors is also tuned similarly. However, the midrange of the ATH-M60X is lusher, revealing multiple instruments’ natural timbre. For instance, wind instruments have a bolder, rounder, and warmer sound. The same can be said with male and female vocals, although not as noticeable. The Austrian Audio Hi-X55 are headphones made for music production, but several features make them more practical than most classic studio pairs. The 1.2m length cable is comfortable to use on the go. There are no microphonics or unwanted sounds when moving with them.
Austrian Audio boasts that the 44mm dynamic driver is the optimal size, thus using it for their wide range of headphones including the Hi-X55. Like others have said, they are remarkably source dependent. My go-to is the Walkman ZX507 which, as most people know, does not have much power to give. Fortunately, these are easy to drive headphones so the Walkman does do it. That said, I did run these on my iFi Hip DAC with and without XBass. I also ran these on my FiiO Q3 with its very clean sound signature. What I've found is that the more power you throw at these, the better they sound. Others are right as well, pairing them with a smoother/warmer sounding DAC/amp improved overall sound signature. LCD-1 - fast cleaner/tighter, more energy (it's bass light compare to other headphones like M50x, but among them i think LCD 1 got better as planar)Despite being designed by a relatively new company, the Hi-X55 is a very mature product that shouldn’t just be confined to the studio. Plenty of regular audiophiles will enjoy this also. Austrian Audio Hi-X55 Specifications
Everything at once and all at the same time is simply not possible! With over 500 CDs, many of which are good for tests, it's not easy! In between, I just want to enjoy the music! The top end also delivers detail and clarity. With a frequency response of 5Hz-28kHz, they have extended reach in the top end beyond the natural limits of human hearing. Looking at response curves highlights a little imbalance in the upper regions, but this did not translate to any noticeable issues when listening.M70x - little heavier than LCD1, sometimes ears are touching the driver, clamping force and dekoni nuggets placement (on the plastic) was perfect. One thing to note is that the internal wiring from the left to the right side is exposed, in an interestingly fashionable way. The wire is twisted in a way that adds some flair to the overall look of the headphones. What I now notice after a longer period of intensive listening is that the Hi-X65 sits almost perfectly on the head, you don't even notice that you have headphones on, despite a long listening session! Its weight is low, the pads are soft, cuddly and you hardly notice them. Anyway, in short, X55 is harsh because it is designed to sound critical, or maybe brutal, toward mixes. I find it personally still quite well-tuned. And after my first day, I will say I get accustomed to its sound. Coming from Grado and Sennheiser, X55 really feels like a new paradigm for listening to music.
