About this deal

Just a few weeks ago we saw the ROG Zephyrus M16 with its 13th-gen Core i9 CPU, RTX 4090 GPU and beautiful 16-inch screen. Now we have the ROG Strix Scar 16 with an even faster 13th gen Core i9, RTX 4080 and an equally stunning 16-inch screen. Furthermore, Thermal Grizzly’s Conductonaut Extreme liquid metal compound is applied on both the CPU and the GPU. W (~4-5 h of use) – Netflix 4K HDR – single-zone lighting, fullscreen in Edge, Silent Mode, screen at 50%, WiFi ON; The keyboard is your classic pro-gamer chiclet effort, with switches rated to last over 20 million presses and n-key rollover to make sure individual key presses register when you press a whole bunch at once.

We’ll have another article where we’ll get more in-depth on the performance differences between these platforms. Turbo Mode vs. Performance, SilentSpeaking of, the arrow keys have been updated on this generation, and are now full-size keys intertwined between the other keys on the lower-right side. I’m not entirely sold on this change over the spaced-out smaller arrows implemented in the past design, but I guess full-size arrows make more sense on such a gaming computer. As far as noise levels go, expect 52 dBA on Manual with max-fans, ~50 dBA on Turbo, ~42 dBA of Performance, and 35 dBA on the Silent profile. I haven’t noticed any coil whining on this unit, but that’s no guarantee you won’t on yours. Make sure to properly listen for any potential issues within your return term. This generation of the ROG Scar is undoubtedly much more powerful than the previous Scar 15, and better cooled as well, thanks to the updated thermal module.

Battlefield V, Cyberpunk, Doom, Witcher 3 – recorded with Fraps/in-game FPS counter in campaign mode; Our test model is the mid-specced configuration of the Asus ROG Strix Scar 16, code name G634JZ, built on an Intel Core i9-13980HX processor, 32 GB of DDR5-4800 memory in dual channel, 2 TB of fast SSD storage, and dual graphics: the Nvidia RTX 4080 12GB dGPU and the Iris UHD iGPU integrated within the Intel processor.

We tested a couple of different types of games on the various available profiles at QHD+ and FHD+ resolution, all with the MUX set on the Ultimate GPU mode. We’ll know more about the performance of these news specs in these updated implementations once we get to review the 2023 Scars, somewhere in the next few weeks. We’ll also carefully look into the thermals and noise levels of these designs, on the various power profiles offered in Armoury Crate. Update: Here are the configurations available for the Asus ROG Strix Scar 16 and Scar 18 (2023) series:
