Of course, it’ll look better once the far side is enclosed as well; I’m not working on that courtyard side yet. These floor plans of every level of Hogwarts castle, researched and created by Harper Robinson, take the the tiniest of details from the books into account — read Harper’s notes below and be amazed — as well as the standard structure and architecture of castles over the centuries. While not canon, this map is certainly one of the most well-researched and historically accurate blueprints of Hogwarts that anyone could create. Whew, sorry for the long delay…the months of sitting at my home desk have taken their toll on my arms, and I’ve had to significantly limit my computer use. This will be a shorter post as a result. If you assume that each house, gender, and year gets its own room, then you have to find places for a total of 56 different dormitories in which to put them. That would mean 14 rooms above the Gryffindor common room alone—and it’s already on the 7 th floor. In the interest of space, therefore, I’ve marked the places where I assume the dormitories to be, and have left it to magic to sort out. Perhaps there’s some kind of Expansion Charm involved. Hiss the word “open” to the sink in Moaning Myrtle’s bathroom and a pipe will widen in the wall. It shoots downwards, ending in the Chamber of Secrets. This legendary room is described as being somewhere “below the lake” amidst a pile of rat skeletons and a Basilisk (deceased). The existence of a bell tower is speculative; it’s never referred to as a tower in the book, but the bell seems to boom from somewhere above, perhaps especially close to the courtyard and classroom eleven. Considering how Hogwarts is a “vast”“towering mass” of “many turrets and towers”, I don’t think I necessarily have to limit myself just to the six towers that are explicitly described.The language in the books is not always particularly precise, so there is a little room for flexibility in the interpretation.
