About this deal

As the week goes by, the two get on really well, Lucy proclaims that they can have sex but only the one time and she continues in her competition for the new job that they are both vying for. Later that evening, Josh invites Lucy to his apartment and reveals that he has a strained relationship with his father because he dropped out of med school, while his brother was always the favorite.

He was complex and really layered, and though it doesn’t take away his asshole-ness, he did have some valid reasons to be the way he was. Where hate is akin to love, where nice is akin to mean, where reflections of self are seen in the colours, sounds, actions and preconceived ideas of what people believe that someone must be.Thirdly, while I knew I’d enjoy Lucy and how she is struggling to establish limits, Josh unexpectedly captured my heart. I have to say that his over-protectiveness and jealousy did annoy me, and I think he snapped wayyy too easily at times, but I actually did quite like his character.

Debut author Sally Thorne bursts on the scene with a hilarious and sexy workplace comedy all about that thin, fine line between hate and love. She wants a nice guy, and she tries to be interested in a nice guy, but the niceness cannot compare to the intensity of her "hatred" for Josh. In conclusion, I definitely loved Sally Thorne’s debut novel and am eager to read her upcoming one “99 Percent Mine”. But the tension between Lucy and Joshua has also reached its boiling point, and Lucy is discovering that maybe she doesn't hate Joshua.

So why is she suddenly having steamy dreams about Joshua, and dressing for work like she’s got a hot date?

Delighted by the ins and outs of the publishing world, delighted with the dialogue between them, delighted by the wit that Lucy demonstrates in her inner monologues. Debut novelist Thorne delivers something nearly impossible: an entirely predictable plot that is also completely fresh, original, and utterly charming. More bizarre quotes: "His sweat smells like rainwater and cedar, leaving a faint rosemary-pine tingle in my nostrils. It might seem like I didn’t love these characters, and I wouldn’t say that I lovedddd them, but what redeemed them for me were their genuine quirks. Some of you might have traveled to the beach for the sole purpose of escaping the office, but we think this funny and romantic workplace comedy just might change your mind.

We love the r-word being used in the context of Josh telling Lucy he’s loved her since the moment he saw her. But the hate vibes worked for me in a lot of other ways: it was easy to see how Lucy could hate Josh with as frustrated and small as many of his comments and actions made her feel. Then again, if she were a little more observant then we wouldn’t have this funny and swoon-worthy story in the first place. Last week, having begged my work library’s lovely and conciliatory acquisitions staff whose desk was piled way-high with books, to dig out my reservation, I indulged myself in a procrastiread of author Sally Thorne’s debut novel The Hating Game. This reminded to SJM books *cough* you all know how she loves to say how male someone is or how male this situations is lmao and include scents to every single male character that appears in those books.

I also couldn’t help belly-laughing at some scenes and re-read them a few times before continuing with the novel. First, she thinks the investigators will "assume" she is a stripper because of things she's wearing.Josh has moments of being kind and caring but they are fleeting and the majority of their relationship is based on put-downs, sarcasm, and fear. Honestly, to wrap up my feelings, it is somewhat astounding to me that people find Twilight problematic (it is) but love this.
