About this deal

In effect, the town grew up around the distillery and since its foundation in 1794 it has played a crucial role in local life. When I was new to whisky years ago, I first learned of Oban because its 14-year-old single malt was one of the six Classic Malts of Scotland, a selection created by Diageo in 1988 and afterward mass-produced and distributed among on-sale locations across the United Kingdom. A little salty; a little malty; honey sweetness, big orange zest (amongst other citrus fruits); and a lovely underlying smoke that doesn’t really overplay it’s part. The bouquet perfectly reflects the refined spirit of the Oban distillery, and the slightly salty notes give a clean air to the Scottish assortment, balancing it.

It is distilled from lightly-peated malt, aged in refill ex-Bourbon casks, chill-filtered, and bottled at 43% strength. The Oban distillery sits in the town of the same name and overlooks the harbour and the sea at Scotland’s western coast.NID cookie, set by Google, is used for advertising purposes; to limit the number of times the user sees an ad, to mute unwanted ads, and to measure the effectiveness of ads. A review of this single malt is definitely long overdue, and I realized that rectifying this gap in Malt’s archives would be great for the site and its readers while also serving as an excellent way of getting myself back into the rhythms of writing. Plus, Nick Offerman apparently drinks it as a deviation from his Lagavulin fixation, if you believe his (Diageo sponsored…) “ My Tales Of Whisky” video clips. The tiny lantern-shaped copper pot stills are among the smallest in Scotland; their rich, fruity malt is then slowly condensed in wooden worm tubs that sit outside among the rooftops, before being aged in oak casks for at least 14 years.

Oban Distillery is both one of the oldest distilleries in Scotland and one of the smallest with just two pot stills. While it’s easy to enjoy Oban 14 mindlessly and as a “background whisky,” which I normally gravitate toward, I like that it has a little more depth to its character that can be appreciated if given enough attention. On the nose: There is an initial puff of wax that fades immediately and turns into caramel sauce and bubble gum. It is the one Single Malt Scotch Whisky in which the rich, complex flavours of the Highlands meet and mingle with the peaty, maritime character of the Islands.

Built in the centre of Oban as a brewery by town founders John and Hugh Stevenson, distilling began in 1794. Once that settles though that zesty and citrusy set of flavours is joined by a real heather honey sweetness, a good bodied malt and just a little smoke. The General Wine Company is a family-owned and operated wine merchant in Liphook, Hampshire, England. MR FILBERTS Sweet Chilli Rice Crackers 40g - Mr Filbert's spicy chilli rice crackers are seasoned lavishly with warm chillies and a good pinch of spice for a crunchy savoury snack. The tiny lamp glass-shaped copper pot stills that make Oban’s Scotch are among the smallest in Scotland, and the liquor they distill is slowly condensed in wooden worm tubs outside among the rooftops, exposed to the salted sea air, bringing a distinct depth of flavour said to go very well with salted caramel.

The distillery tour was a lot more fun than what I expected from Oban’s parent company _Glen Mordor_ er, I mean Diageo. Overall A true classic, Oban's 14 year old is a great coastal dram for lovers of lightly smoked, fresh malts.Oban 14 Year Old is a superb combination of rich sweetness and smoky dryness with fruity notes of oranges, pears and dried figs, plus hints of sea-salt and peat smoke notes.
