I absolutely love the start of this where we are introduced to flatulent rescue dog Dave, a character in his own right and shall we say a bit of a handful? It's all about the money, from the presenter locked into a contract she wants out of to the contestants who all have a secret they wish to remain hidden, to the producer Miles who is playing an evil game by his own rules. And don't expect the contestants to be particularly likeable, because (much like the residents of The Shore from the last novel) they absolutely are not. Anyone could go to great lengths to prevent their secrets from coming out or to avenge the person who already ruined their life. It's quite hard to discuss the book without spoiling it for others but the premise 2nd bookis based once again in the Welsh mountains.There's some great world building/family secrets/personal details in TLP, and AGOL expands on those a bit. No wonder that this leads to a contestant disappearing, because some secrets are too dark to be revealed.
A Game of Lies is book two in the DC Morgan series and it was so good being back in this space with the firey DC! The story begins roughly 18 months on from the first book and we soon learn that Ffion has not really changed!Thinking they’re going to be contestants on a survival reality show, these 7 hand picked contestants have no idea what they are in for until premier night. I did eventually really get focused on it and enjoyed it but, and I don’t know whether it’s because I enjoyed the first one so much, but this one just didn’t fully hit the mark for me.
