About this deal

Spring and Summer both have a threshold of eight, while Fall has seven, and finally Winter with six.

I would personally love to see it so paid users can host (local or online), unpaid users can join games for free. So each time you’re gaining a coin, you’re setting yourself up to gain even more points in future seasons. The reason is that each card offers two options even before the players draw anything on their sheets: there is either a choice of terrain or a choice of shape.

Myself and Luke go through the list of games that have turned our heads and made us into chuckling muppets. Each game has different scoring conditions, but each turn is the same experience – flip a card, and ponder your map to determine the best place to draw that shape and terrain type given the score conditions in play and what’s possible to come out next.

Take the rest of the Explore Cards, add the first of the Ambush Cards, shuffle this new deck and place it face-down next to the Season deck. While I do prefer the actual game, this is a great way to play if you don't have access to a sharp pencil and the pads. If one of the shapes has a gold coin next to it and you decide to draw in that shape then you’re going to get to color in one of the coins on your map sheet (we’ll get to this momentarily). Just when you think you’ve got it all figured out, a monster appears and you’ve suddenly got this thing sitting in the middle of your map sheet threatening to eat away at your point total. On top of it being in a genre of games that I really like, it was a flip and fill game based in the same universe as Roll Player, of which I was already a fan? For example, “monster” cards allow a player next to you to draw a “monster” pattern wherever they want on your map. You’ll notice that some shapes depicted on the Explore cards have a gold coin next to them: if you draw that shape, fill in one of the gold coin symbols underneath your map. The other fun touch for solo play is that while in the multiplayer game players choose their own names and titles, in solo, the Queen will assign you a title at the end of the game—and it gets more insulting when you do a bad job! It also means that the game really can be played by 1 or 100 players at the same time with very few changes.

The selected location must satisfy several criteria, among them that the surrounding area provides natural defenses and resources. So players are constantly in damage control mode: how can I get the most points while using the piece I'm given? The erasers aren’t the greatest quality and smudge things into oblivion more so than making them just go away. In the game, players aim to draw terrains based on drawn cards that award points based on the relevant letter cards. The most important thing that Heroes adds to the game, in my estimation, is even more objective cards--four of each type. Across the grid are ruins and mountains and possible a massive canyon, depending on the difficulty chosen.
