About this deal

The maps, illustrations and notes from the author (the one about cabins is particularly good) add greatly to the overall reading experience. You might also love the Nothing to See Here Hotel series, as well as The Adventure Club series and The House at the Edge of Magic series.

This wonderful, cosy, feel-good, illustrated series about cosy animals and living in the great outdoors is perfect for readers ages 5+ stepping away from picture books and into the wonderful world that is chapter books! To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Big Sky Mountain is a love letter to nature and the wild, inspired by Alex's own childhood with his grandma in the Malvern Hills, and the woodland and cabin he now owns in Kent.

Before Rosa has had much time to settle in, she’s whisked off by Grandma Nan to investigate a mystery. We soon meet Albert the moose, and he is just the first of an entertaining bunch of creatures that share this corner of the wilderness with Nan. It truly has been beautiful here in Big Sky recently, and we can only pray for the weather to turn cold and nasty, snowy and blustery, just how we like it. The Lone Peak Tram is an aerial tramway that transports guests to the summit of Lone Mountain at 11,166 ft (3,403 m).From canoeing down rapids to making friends with the local animals, life never stays still for long on Big Sky Mountain! It provided access to the most difficult terrain at Big Sky Resort, including former Moonlight Basin terrain. The characters from the first book are also critical to the story, as the friendships play a major role in getting Hutch and Kendra to finally connect. As with the rest of the Big Sky Mountain series, there’s a lovely emphasis here on nature, animals and protecting the environment, as well as the importance of family and working together. And Rosa has left her big city life to come and live here with her not-so-ordinary grandmother, on Big Sky Mountain.

Rosa is a lovely young girl who has gone to stay with her Grandma Nan for reasons we don’t really get to know, except for one line about her father. Hutch Carmody finds himself standing in front of a church watching his soon to be wife walking down the aisle. Even though I think the back story was a bit overdone I do look forward to book 3 (pub date unreleased at the moment). The fourth lift was the Andesite double, which climbed the north face of adjacent Andesite Mountain to 8,700 ft (2,650 m); it was renamed Ram's Horn in 1978, and replaced with the Ramcharger high speed quad in 1990.

The animal characters provide lots of humourous moments and beneath it all there are important messages about the environment too.
