Agatha is determined to have an old fashioned Christmas, complete with friends, decorations, good food, and romance. As I age, I find my esteem through my wisdom and experience and encourage younger folk to be happy and free. It’s pointed out a couple of times it’s early October, but Agatha occasionally dreams of organising a Dickensian Christmas.

I have become more and more convinced over the years that these books are 'first drafts' and that nobody is allowed to edit them to make them better. The detective work has fallen by the wayside and been replaced by an occasionally funny but always enjoyable show.On a trip from the States to Sutherland on holiday, a course at a fishing school inspired the first Constable Hamish Macbeth story. This was my first Agatha Raisin book, after having watched the television series, and I actually like the older, more bullish version of Raisin in the book more than her TV representation. Toni and Charles infiltrate a pagan clan while Agatha, Roy and Sarah investigate the victim's family and workers at the Lower Tapor mansion.

Toni is a young woman that came from a troubled family and wants to become a detective and tries her best to succeed. Her books feel more domestic and cozy, yet she touches on tough topics without caring to deal with them. it says, ‘The house was small and grey; one of those old Cotswold houses which weather so well that it is hard to determine it’s age’. Can Agatha find the culprit and prevent the murderer as well as holding the perfect Christmas party? And in her dreams, James Lacey kissed her under the mistletoe, and, like a middle-aged sleeping beauty, she would awake to passion once more.Agatha is in fine form in this story still insecure, still trying to get emphysema, cirrhosis of the liver and of course a man in her life. Read all Agatha's in need of a well-earned break and with Christmas just around the corner it looks like the perfect opportunity to relax. Her biggest hope is that her ex James Lacey will be back in the village in time for the celebration. Toni turns out to have a real knack for detective work, but of course Agatha's a bit jealous of Toni's youth and beauty. As if she has a formula and replaced each circumstance, adjective and character to be an opposite to Hamish.
