About this deal

Hera is the wife of Zeus and Queen of the Greek gods and goddesses. She was feared for her jealous and vengeful nature, while simultaneously celebrated for her zealous protection over marriages and childbirth. His symbols include the anvil, hammer and tongs, and this earthenware saucer shows him forging an arrow, accompanied by his wife and three putti – winged infants. As Jupiter’s wife, she was known to be fiercely loyal, but was also jealous and vindictive, especially when Jupiter usurped her role as a mother and gave birth to Minerva from his head. It is said he tapped his forehead and gave birth to Minerva from his mind. This incident is believed to be the reason Juno, with the use of Flora’s magical flower, gave birth to Mars on her own. She was also, according to works by Homer and Virgil, more often scolding her husband rather than caressing him. Zeus' parents were the Titans, Cronos and Rhea, and he is the youngest brother of Hestia, Demeter, Hera, Hades, and Poseidon (who are also gods in the pantheon). According to Greek mythology, Zeus' father Cronos learnt that one of his children was fated to dethrone him as leader of the gods, so ate each one as soon as they were born. Goddess of sight and the shining light of the clear blue sky. She is the consort of Hyperion, and mother of Helios, Selene, and Eos.

Ixion, a king of the Lapiths who attempted to rape Hera and was bound to a flaming wheel in Tartarus Since her union with Zeus, Hera gave birth to Hebe, the goddess of youth, and Ares, the bloodthirsty and havoc wreaking god of war. According to others, Ilithyia, mother of aches, and Eris, goddess of discord and non combatant, were children of Hera and Zeus. Just who might be called an Olympian is not entirely clear. For example, Dowden, p. 43, describes Heracles, Hebe, the Muses, and the Graces as Olympians, and on p. 45, lists Iris, Dione, and Eileithyia among the Homeric Olympians, while Hansen, p. 250, describes Heracles, Hebe, the Horae, and Ganymede as notable residents of Olympus, but says they "are not ordinarily classified as Olympians".According to Greek mythology, the world began when Gaia (the Earth) emerged from Chaos – an empty nothingness. She then gave birth to Ouranos (the Sky) and other primordial deities like Pontos (the Sea) and Ourea (the Mountains).
