Kokushibo's human family name contains the Kun'yomi/reading of the kanji for "to inherit, succeed" ( 継 ( つぎ ) , tsugi ?) and "country" ( 国 ( くに ) , kuni ?), while his first name contains the Nanori of the kanji for "sterness, severity" ( 巌 ( みち ) , michi ?) and the Kun'yomi reading for "to prevail, victory" ( 勝 ( かつ ) , katsu ?). His father was the one who named him, as he believed Michikatsu would be strong and successful.
