In 1968, just before Easy Rider roared its way into American consciousness, Danny Lyon published The Bikeriders . After graduating in June 1963, he joined the SNCC as its first staff photographer, remaining in the role until mid-1964, when fraught internal politics and his own ambitions meant it was time to move on.

Later, in a letter to a prospective publisher, he described the Outlaws as 'probably the only thing like cowboys left in America'.With a preface for the new edition and the introduction to the 1968 edition by Danny Lyon as well as narratives describing the bikers' life on trips throughout he Midwest and the Southern States of America. This is a nice clean copy, the binding is strong, The text is clean and pages are not torn or dirty. The Bikeriders premiered as the opening film of the 50th Telluride Film Festival on August 31, 2023. The importance of his work and our interest in the subject is reinforced by Lyon’s immersion in his subject. Danny Lyon, a member of Magnum Photos, documents his experience as a member of the infamous 1960's Chicago motorcycle gang "The Outlaws".

The first printing of this new edition of The Bikeriders is limited to 3,850 case bound copies and a special slipcased edition of 150 autographed copies. Danny Lyon (born in New York, 1942) is highly regarded as one of the most influential documentary photographers of the last five decades. His many books include The Movement (1964), The Destruction of Lower Manhattan (1969), Conversations with the Dead (1971), Knave of Hearts (1999), Like a Thief’s Dream (2007), and Deep Sea Diver (2011). The song is directly inspired by photojournalist Danny Lyon’s book The Bikeriders, a collection of photographs and interviews with members of the Chicago Outlaws motorcycle club in the mid 60’s.
