About this deal

Incidentally, the description for this book in GoodReads is confused, as he never goes to the underworld, which would have been interesting. I think an encounter with Hades might have been a good conclusion. Firstly, I want to talk about the writing style. Gibbons has definitely hit the mark with the way he writes. It’s so easy to read that the story flows through your head easily, and I love the way the author doesn't waste any time. If it’s relevant to the story, it’s in, if it’s not, it’s not. Simple as that. Thomas, Joe (16 September 2018). "Touching tributes paid to popular scaffolder with 'heart as big as Liverpool' ". Liverpool Echo . Retrieved 7 March 2023.

Following his expulsion from the Labour Party, Gibbons became deputy leader of the Liverpool Community Independents group of councillors on Liverpool City Council. He was one of three Liverpool Community Independent councillors to be elected. [22] [23] Awards and honours [ edit ] the Alan Gibbons Interview". Archived from the original on 27 September 2007 . [7] Campaign against library closures [ edit ] The main character in the book is a boy named Phoenix. At the start of the novel, he is not a very strong character; he gets bullied at school, he doesn’t have many friends and the only thing that cheers him up is when he is playing guinea pig of ‘the game’: Liverpool City Council: Labour rebels form independent group". I just wanted to point something out about this quote. I mean, it’s a really cool quote and all, but didn't you jump off a cliff and survive earlier? In March 2022, Gibbons was among a group of seven Liverpool Labour councillors who broke the whip to vote against the ruling party's proposed budget for Liverpool City Council. In his speech, he said: "Liverpool’s communities are at breaking point. As a matter of conscience, I am not prepared to vote for cuts that will make life harder for the people I represent". Retrieved 10 May 2023. In the book, the scenes change a lot from real life to the game. The writer makes the changes very sudden and Phoenix usually says something like “I’m home” which gets a bit repetitive after a while. The changes are so sudden, it is quite effective as you can keep reading to find out were they are and what the place looks like or you have no idea were they are or what is going to happen next. Phoenix could also be a little melodramatic at times too, like when he was talking about all that ”I am reborn!” stuff, and more than once I found myself thinking, Seriously, what is that all about? Strangely though, I never found him annoying, apart from perhaps slightly when he seemed to have a totally different personality at school and at home. I wished he would just decide if he was embarrassed by his dad, or if he admired him. Labour suspends councillors amid Liverpool budget row". BBC News. 1 March 2022 . Retrieved 7 March 2023. I’m sure all of us have wondered at some point what would happen if videogames started taking over the world – I certainly have. And look at this, it’s a videogame based on Greek mythology! Surely this book was made for me. Authors join thousands in protest against cuts to cultural services". The Independent. 5 November 2016 . Retrieved 7 March 2023. The ending was a classic deus ex machina, and it would have been preferable to see Phoenix escape by his own efforts. The main character in this book is Phoenix Graves. Somehow, I found myself really liking his character, even though he could sometimes be stubborn to the point of annoyance, with all his ”I never lie” and "I forget nothing” nonsense, as demonstrated below. This shows the comparison between Laura and Steve. The quote describes Adams and his gang as a strong simile so Laura seems extremely nice and kind, which she is. At the start of the book, Laura is just an ordinary school girl but when she is in the game, she is much more bossy and demanding as she is under threat and is not used to it so she is slightly scared.
